Principal's Message
Dear Lakeside Elementary Community,
Students and staff have definitely settled into the school year, and despite restrictions due to health precautions, the Elementary Staff continue to keep traditions alive in different ways! The highlight of October was certainly the Halloween Parade on October 29, which was structured very much like last year: teachers led students, donned in their Halloween costumes, through the gymnasiums of each school where community partners waited to fill their bags with candy. The students finished off the adventure with a trip around the football field parking lot where families were parked to see the students and honk their horns in support. This endeavor would not have been possible without the support of the Jr. High and High schools, particularly Jim Giulio and his PE classes who gave up their PE time to allow this to happen, as well as many community partners.
The Halloween Parade was a culminating day of Red Ribbon Week, when staff and students did several activities all week long to raise awareness about the dangers of drugs and bullying. Lee Thomas and Brandy Lochrie were instrumental in making this a success with poster contests and dress-up days throughout the week.
Our staff also participated in a full day of Professional Development on October 22, which allowed staff intentional time to examine student achievement data and the academic programs we are using to ensure we are teaching essential standards and reaching our students. Teachers continue to meet weekly to continue this work, as we are going through the process of becoming a Professional Learning Community (PLC). This PLC work gives teachers the time and support to analyze student data effectively so we can adjust our instructional practices and curriculum to better meet the needs of all of our students here at Lakeside Elementary.
The month of November will be full of activities for Native American Heritage Month, as well as time to recognize our veterans for Veteran’s Day on November 11. Our EEC Team continues to do a fantastic job of keeping these events going strong!
Dani Boyd,
Lakeside Elementary School
